Starship Mario was originally started back in 2005 as a misc. fansite under the name of 'Anime Deluxe', later, in the same year, to be re-released as a MegaMan and Sonic fansite on a different server. After much reorganization and an addition of a staff, the site was yet again re-released as an Anime fansite called ChibiRPG. The head webmaster of that site set out on his own project to create a site with a videogame fan community. The new project was called MetaNut and it feature spritesheets, sprite comics and more. A new staff was in the works, but the process was quickly halted by new plans. 'Ring Stream' was the new product, but by now, only 2 of the original members existed. Shortly after, the site was renamed 'Digital Jungle Zone', which lasted from Fall 2006 to the end of the year, and had a separate sub-site for sprite comics. In Fall 2009, the site was fully recreated from scratch as a misc. news & fansite, under the name of Aqua XX (at first, autumnsaur), which lasted until the end of the year. Then, Angelswearsushi, at first a blog, came into production and was officially released at the end of April and is still active and will be. Starship Mario was created as a sub-fansite to Angelswearsushi to focus on 'Mario'-only.
The name 'Starship Mario' was taken from Super Mario Galaxy 2's reincarnation of the Comet Observatory; a place where you navigate through different galaxies in space from.
